The International Movement “Banner of Peace” dates back to 1979, when the First Children’s Assembly “Banner of Peace” was held in Sofia, Bulgaria, in dedication to the International Year of the Child /IYC/. Patron of the Children’s Assembly was Mr. Amadu Mahtar M’Bow - the then General Director of UNESCO.
By 1989 four Assemblies and four Meetings of children from all over the world have been held in Sofia. Altogether, 3 900 kids from 138 countries and 14 000 children from Bulgaria have taken part in them.
Initiator and creator of the “Banner of Peace” Movement is Ludmila Jivkova, Minister of Culture at the time, as well as a renowned history researcher and cultural theoretician. The Movement’s motto reads: “Unity, Creativity, Beauty”, while its basic principle is: “Anyone can be a creator in the Peace Assembly”.

The fortress Urvich is situated 15 km. from Sofia, 8 km. south of the village Kokaliane and 6 km. north of the village Dolni Pasarel. The best transport is the city bus line No3, which starts from the bus station in quarter "Geo Milev". Get off the bus at the station "Trudovak" (near the momument), go downhill following the steep track to the Iskar river, then go left , cross the river and follow the small, but well visible track, leading to a building, which looks like a fortress. This, however, is not Urvich, but a private property with restricted access and not very friendly guards with dogs. Go around this building and you will reach a particularly well preserved tower and the original fortress wall. Close by you will find the ruins of the church "St. Ilia". If you go further, you will reach the rock, from which according to some legends, the wife of tsar Shishman was thrown down.
The medieval fortress of Urvich is located in the Pancharevo gorge (on the land where the village of Pancharevois today ) by the Iskar river, which divides Plana mountain from the very west end of Sredna Gora mountain - the Lozen mountain. It`s located on Lozen`s hill Sredobardie, on a crag enclosed from three sides by the Iskar river.
The historical information (construction of the walls, other remains) shows that the fortress was built during the XIII century in the time of the Second Bulgarian Empire. Preserved today are parts of the outside wall with a height up to 6 m. and parts of the walls of the inner court church "St. Ilia". There are two versions regarding the origin of the name. According to the first one, the fortress was named after the name of the local boyar - Urvich. The other one says, that the name follows the situation - from "urva" (an old bulgarian word meaning precipice).

15: 00 h Bojana waterfall

This is a waterfall on the Boyana River in Vitosha Mountain and is situated at an alti- tude of 1260 m near the huts of Momina Skala and Esperanto. It is about 15 m high and is especially beautiful in springwhen the snows are melting.

18:00 h Visit and accomodation at Kopitoto Complex

Kopitoto (the hoof) is located on Vitosha mountain. It is visible from the city. Its land mark is the TV antenna on the right hand side of the horse shoe and the hotel restaurant "Kopitoto" on the left side. The room windows and the large terraces of the restaurant offer the best view of Sofia there is.
